Daryl J.W. Mackin (Executive Director, Founder)
Mr. Daryl J.W. Mackin is originally from Long Island, New York. Mr. Mackin began a culinary career while at sea serving in the U.S. Navy. In his early days within the food service industry, Mr. Mackin focused on Mediterranean cuisine and worked in Italian and French restaurants while still living in New York.
Mr. Mackin was educated at the world renown C.I.A. (Culinary Institute of America). He was the executive chef of the prestigious Hali’imaile Restaurant in Maui, Hawaii where he met his wife Johannah. They married
in 1995 and lived in Johannah’s hometown, Bridgton, Maine where Mr. Mackin taught culinary
arts at Lake Region Vocational Center for 7 years. He continued to work as an executive chef for the summer resort and restaurant, Tarry-A-While.
Chef Mackin and his family (son Zachariah and twins Malakai and Nadia) have lived in Murfreesboro since 2004. During the summer time Chef Mackin is known as Coach Mack for the Murfreesboro Optimist Baseball league. He’s been enjoying his hobby of coaching little league baseball for the past 12 years.
Mr. Mackin started A Soldier’s Child in 2008.

Steve Fuchcar (Treasurer)
Steve is
originally from Marietta, GA, moving to Murfreesboro in 1977 to
pursue a career in accounting with the firm of Hall, Davidson &
Associates, where he is now one of the partners. A proponent of
community service, Steve is an active member of the Stones River -
Oaklands Kiwanis Club and has served on the United Way board for
many years. Having a passion for working with kids, joining the
team at
A
Soldier's Child was a natural fit. Steve's wife of 32
years, Heidi, is also an ASC board member. They have three
children, Lauren, Brianna, and Josh, and one grandson, Chance.
