Daryl J.W. Mackin (Executive Director, Co-Founder) - Mr. Daryl J.W. Mackin (Mr. Mack) is originally from Long Island, New York. Mr. Mack began his culinary career at sea, while serving in the U.S. Navy. In his early days within the food service industry, Mr. Mack focused on Mediterranean cuisine and worked in Italian and French restaurants while still living in New York.
Mr. Mack was educated at the world renown C.I.A. (Culinary Institute of America). He was the executive chef of the prestigious Hali’imaile Restaurant in Maui, Hawaii where he met his wife Johannah. They married 1995 and lived in Johannah’s hometown, Bridgton, Maine where Mr. Mack taught culinary at Lake Region Vocational Center for 7 years. He continued to work as an executive chef for the summer resort and restaurant, Tarry-A-While.
Chef Mack and his family (son Zachariah and twins Malakai and Nadia) have lived Murfreesboro since 2004. During the summer time chef Mack is known as Coach Mack for the Murfreesboro Optimist Baseball league. He’s been enjoying his hobby of coaching little league baseball for the past 12 years.
In 2008, Mr. Mackin started A Soldier’s Child.
Theron Hatch (Vice Chair, Co-Founder) - Theron Hatch is originally from Bridgton, Maine. Mr. Hatch spent 6 years as a Nuclear trained submariner, with his final duty station in San Diego. It was here in San Diego that Mr. Hatch met and married his wife Mary. They now reside in Franklin, TN and have two daughters, Kate and Anna.
Mr. Hatch owns Cirq Media Solutions, LLC based in Franklin, TN. He is a successful entrepreneur and internet visionary, plays electric bass around Nashville for fun, and is a deacon at The Peoples Church in Franklin.
Lou Ann Zelenik (Vice Chair, Media Relations) - Lou Ann Zelenik was born in Louisville, KY and has lived in Tennessee for the past 36 years. She is graduate of Vanderbilt University School of Engineering. Lou Ann was a founding partner of L & N Construction. Projects included over 100 developments across Middle Tennessee, including 2 years working on the Nashville International Airport.
Lou Ann is no stranger to the Murfreesboro and Rutherford County area. She is currently on the Rutherford County Planning Commission and is Chair of the Rutherford County Republican Party. A Soldier’s Child is fortunate to have Lou Ann on our board.
Stephen Fuchcar (Treasurer) - Stephen Fuchcar runs his own CPA firm in Murfreesboro, TN.
Teresa Pearson (Secretary) - Teresa Pearson works for Rutherford County Board of Education as the bookkeeper for Blackman High School. Born and raised in Murfreesboro, Teresa is married to Chuck Pearson and has two children, Gary and Jennifer.
