Family to Family Christmas Kicks Off!

A Soldier's Child started its Family to Family Christmas program to give back to the families of our servicemen and women who have sacrificed so much. Lost in the busyness of the Christmas season are the children of those who serve - who will wake up Christmas morning missing mom or dad and perhaps not understanding why they can't be there.

With your help, hundreds of young children from nearby Ft. Campbell, whose parent is currently deployed overseas, might have a reason to smile when they wake on Christmas day. There are two ways to participate. Visit our F2F page for more information.

ASC Golf Tournament a Big Success!

We are happy to announce that our ASC Golf Tournament at Indian Hills Golf Course raised over $18,000! We are so very thankful to all of our participants, sponsors, and volunteers that made the event possible.  We are already looking forward to another successful golf scramble next year.

ASC "Celebrating a Legacy of Royalty" Gathering in Clarksville

Many came and enjoyed live music, cocktails, and heavy hors d'oeuvres at the Waterstreet Events Center in Clarksville, TN on October 7, 2011. The evening included live music and mingling with performances by Dillon Dixon, Jay Vern, Clay Evans, Jimbeau Hinson, Amanda Martin, and others. This event was made possible by the generous support of Rob Copeland & Copeland Wealth Management, Phil Prichard of Prichard's Distillery, and Fifth City Distributors.

Without fundraising events like these, ASC would not be able to continue its mission of giving back to the families of our fallen heroes. If you are interested in organizing an event to benefit ASC in your area, please contact ASC Executive Director, Daryl Mackin at daryl@asoldierschild.org or by calling (615) 427-2970.

Bubba's Belly Run 2011

Congratulations to Nicki Bunting (Military Spouse Magazine's Army 2010 Spouse of the Year) for her work in organizing another successful memorial run in honor of her late husband, Capt. Brian "Bubba" Bunting, who was killed in Afghanistan.

This year's event was held Sept 25th on the campus of Bullis School in Potomac, Maryland. ASC board members were there to show support for the event and Ms. Bunting and her family. ASC is one of the beneficiaries of this great event!

In addition to the run, her foundation accepted donations to purchase flags which were placed along the route of the run. Over 6,000 flags were displayed around the perimeter of the school to honor each and every member of our military killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

ASC's First Annual Benefit Dinner a Success!

A Soldier's Child First Annual Dinner Benefit, held at the Factory in Franklin earlier this year, was a huge success. The evening, called "Celebrating a Legacy of Royalty", highlighted many of the activities that ASC is involved in, including providing birthday gifts for over 400 children, summer camp opportunities, and college scholarships, all for those children who have lost a parent that was serving in the US Military.

Our keynote speaker for the evening was Lt Col Courtney Rogers (Ret) who shared about her life in the military, having lost her dad at a young age to combat operations. Another special guest was Captain Art Jacobs (Ret) who faithfully served our country, receiving numerous awards including 3 Purple Hearts.

The highlight of the evening was participating in a birthday celebration for one of the children of ASC. This gave people attending an opportunity to see first-hand what an ASC birthday is all about.

A Soldier's Child would like to thank the following Sponsors who made our 2011 Annual Dinner possible.

La Paloma Treatment Center

La Paloma Treatment Center, located near historic, mid-town Memphis, Tennessee, is honored to provide a specific track in support of veterans with co-occurring disorders (addictive disorders coupled with mental health issues). We recognize that the first step in healing is acknowledging the unique sacrifices that veterans have made and providing an environment that eliminates stigma and encourages trust, openness and love. These veterans have served our country and now it is our turn to serve them.

Other sponsors included:

Custom Packaging, Inc.
Rutherford County Education Association
Paytek Solutions
David Barnwell
Scott McPherson

We would also like to acknowledge Bonefish Grill of Murfreesboro who provided the meal and the students of Blackman High School who served the meal.

Our next event will be held in April of 2012 and we look forward to another great benefit!
