John Isbell, Sumner County Assessor of Property and Director of A Line in the Sand Ministries, was instrumental in helping A Soldier’s Child get off the ground. John assisted ASC with our incorporation and non-profit processing. John really believes in what ASC is doing and offered to help after hearing the story from Theron Hatch, brother in law to Daryl Mackin and board member of ASC since its inception.
John jumped at the chance to assist. He wasn’t one of those guys that says he’ll help and then doesn’t. He really dug in and guided us through each step of the way. - Theron Hatch
We presented a commemorative plaque to John at a recent ASC board meeting in Murfreesboro. In the photo on the right are board members Lou Ann Zelenik, Theron Hatch, ALS Ministry President John Isbell, ASC Executive Director Daryl Mackin, and board member Stephen Fuchcar. Absent was board member Teresa Pearson.
Thanks John for all your help. For more info about A Line in the Sand Ministries, you can visit their website here.

Daryl Mackin recently visited Scales Elementary School, a Murfreesboro, TN City school to share the mission of A Soldier’s Child Birthday Foundation with students. Scales Elementary students do an annual fundraising drive for the school. This year they are partnering with ASC to raise funds to celebrate the birthdays of children whose parent has paid the ultimate sacrifice while protecting our freedoms.
“These kids really get it” remarked Scales elementary teacher Melissa Whitehair.
With Daryl was Faye Golczynski, grandmother of Christian Golczynski whose father was killed in action in Iraq. Scales Elementary leadership, including Catherine Stephens, Principal and Don Bartch, Assistant Principal were instrumental in setting up the visit. Below are some pictures of the visit.

On Wednesday, Theron presented documentation to the State of Tennessee’s Division of Business Services. With the help of John Isbell, a good friend of Theron, the paperwork was processed making us “A Soldier’s Child, Inc.” John also helped us establish a federal EIN and assisted with our IRS 1023 application which will allow us to be recognized as a tax exempt organization. Daryl and Theron signed the documentation and will submit Monday. It is expected to take 6-8 weeks to process.

We traveled to Lewisburg, TN on Memorial Day to see the unveiling of a bust created in honor of Marine Staff Sgt. Marc Golczynski who was killed in Iraq. Our purpose was to see and hear more about the life of Marc Golczynski and also to present the first ever ASC gift to his son, Christian Golczynski. It was a memorable day.
We met up with Christian after the ceremony for his dad. Daryl had put together a gift box for him which we presented. Here are a few pictures of that time.
